Breast density has become one of the most important topics in breast cancer screening, yet many women still don't fully understand what it means for their health. Recent federal regulations now require mammography facilities to notify women about their breast density, helping ensure more women are aware of information that may affect both cancer risk and screening effectiveness.
The reality is that breast density matters. It can influence how well breast cancer is detected and may affect conversations about personalized screening options.
Approximately 40–50% of women between ages 40 and 74 have dense breasts, making this one of the most common findings on screening mammograms.1 For these women, understanding breast density is an important step toward becoming an informed participant in their healthcare decisions.

1. How Dense Are My Breasts?
Many women are told they have dense breasts but aren't given much additional context.

BI-RADS B: Scattered areas of fibroglandular density
